I wrote an article for the ASIFA Magazine about two animated shorts that I felt portrayed women in negative light. The article is titled ‘Damaging Portrayals of Women in Indie Animation: A Perspective on Hipopotamy and Pilots on the Way Home‘. It discusses the film Hipopotamy by Piotr Dumala and Pilots on the Way Home by Priit and Olga Parn, both films that have experienced recent festival success.
The magazine is sadly only accessible if you a member of ASIFA. You can read the contents list and become a member here. I recommend doing all you can to access this magazine, the other articles are also really interesting! But if you are really interested in reading my article, send me an email at tess[at]tessmartinart.com and we’ll see what we can do!
ASIFA is the International Animated Film Association, founded in 1960 in Annecy, France.
